The Ukrainian Heritage Weekend at Soyuzivka Resort happened this weekend; June 16 to June 18. Families had a chance to talk with the Ukrainian Embassy staff. I sent a list of questions with a friend who went to this weekend. I am patiently waiting on some of the responses.
But here is what I can share….
First is the Faces of Ukrainian Adoption. If you don’t have high speed internet access, visit your library or a friend who has it. I got very teary eyed watching the beautiful children who were adopted from Ukraine.
Della, an email friend created this gorgeous presentation for the Heritage Weekend at Soyuzivka. She asked a couple of thousand Ukrainian adoptive families for their best photos. She got flooded with photos. Goal was to show that our children are doing great. We can be trusted with additional children. Please let us adopt from Ukraine.
And yes I know that the Embassy staff aren’t involved with opening or closing Ukrainian adoption. However they provide information back to the Ukrainian government. We (adoptive parents) want to be seen as cooperative, proud and loving.
Staff from the Ukrainian Consular Offices in DC and New York saw the presentation. The President of the Ukrainian National Association (UNA) saw the presentation. Adoptive families who were there for the weekend saw the presentation. Many folks got teary eyed, including the Ukrainians. GREAT JOB DELLA.
The President of the UNA wants to put it on Ukrainian TV. He wants to show the Ukrainian people that our children are loved and cared for. There are positive outcomes. We didn’t adopt our children to harvest organs or abuse them. And yes some people really believe that Americans “adopt a child for their organs” urban legend.
Missing Ukrainian Post Adoption Reports
Americans adopted 4,999 children from Ukraine between 1994 to 2004. If I did the math right (first 3 years 1 report per year, then 1 report every 3 years) this means Americans owed 13,413 reports from 1994 to 2005.
The Ukrainian Embassy in Washington DC states there are about 1,000 missing reports. This means 7% of the reports are missing.
Some families’ turned in reports but the Ukrainian Embassy had no record of it. This happened to me. And a couple of friends also discovered their reports were missing. Please check with your Ukrainian Consular Office on your post adoption reports.
The Ukrainian Embassy has called some adoptive parents about missing reports. One family promised to provide the report but never did. Please, please, please (I am begging here) do your reports. If you need help write them, I can interview you for 10 minutes and put a report together. It really is simple. Email me at adoptukraineblog@adoptionmail.com.
All parents adopting from Ukraine swore to provide these post adoption reports. Please do it. (begging again).
I think that the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington DC are the only ones who accept the post adoption report via email.
